Connect the printer before searching
For a network printer, verify that it is on and connected to the same local network as the Windows PC. For USB, check your model’s installation order, then use a working data cable. Windows cannot discover a wireless printer that has not joined the network.
Open Start → Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners. Choose Add device and wait for the list. Select the exact printer model when it appears. Windows may supply a suitable driver automatically.
If the printer is not listed
First check the printer’s own network report or connection indicator and the PC’s active Wi-Fi network. Discovery can be blocked by an isolated guest network. For USB, inspect the cable and try a direct compatible port. Give Windows time to finish its search before trying a manual addition.
Microsoft provides a manual-add route for a printer that is not found automatically. Use it with your device documentation. Do not guess a network address or select a similarly named driver from an unrelated download site.
Test the right entry
Open a simple document, select Print, and confirm that the selected destination is your new printer rather than an old duplicate or PDF printer. Send one page. If a job sits in the queue, check whether the printer is paused, offline, or showing a physical error.
A test page establishes more than a “connected” icon: it confirms the application, selected printer, system queue and device can complete one job together. If it fails, note exactly where it stops.
