Check AirPrint compatibility
AirPrint allows compatible Apple devices and printers to print without installing an additional printer driver. The printer still needs to be powered on and reachable. For ordinary home network printing, connect the printer and Mac or iPhone to the same local Wi-Fi network.
AirPrint is a capability of a specific printer model, not a setting that can be added to every printer. Check the official model page before assuming support. If your model uses a manufacturer app instead, follow that model’s instructions.
Add a printer on Mac
On the Mac, open System Settings → Printers & Scanners and choose Add Printer, Scanner or Fax. Select the matching printer when it appears and review the offered connection. Earlier macOS versions may call this area System Preferences.
Open a small document and choose File → Print. Confirm the chosen printer and paper size. If the printer is absent, check its Wi-Fi connection and whether the Mac is on an isolated guest network before changing drivers or resetting the printing system.
Print from iPhone or iPad
Open an app with a Print action, usually found in its share or action menu. Select the AirPrint printer, review copies and pages, then print. Some apps have no print command, so testing from a different supported app can help isolate an app-specific issue.
If the printer list is empty, confirm the printer and phone are on the same local network, that the printer is awake, and that the model supports AirPrint. A direct USB printer connected only to a Mac does not automatically become an AirPrint printer for the phone.
