Home network setup comes first
For everyday wireless printing, the printer usually joins the same local Wi-Fi network as the computer or phone. A printer can be powered on and still be undiscoverable because it has not joined that network. Check its network screen or print its network report before searching from another device.
Use the wireless setup wizard, the official manufacturer app, or the model-specific button procedure. The method varies widely. Keep the printer near the router during initial setup, and check whether the printer supports the Wi-Fi band you selected.
Wi-Fi Direct is a different connection
Wi-Fi Direct lets a compatible computer or phone connect directly to the printer without using a home router. It may be useful when no local network is available, but the device may need to switch away from its normal Wi-Fi connection to use it. The printer’s Wi-Fi Direct network name and password are different from your home Wi-Fi details.
If your aim is to let several home devices print normally, follow the printer’s ordinary network setup instructions first. Use Wi-Fi Direct only when your model and situation call for a direct connection.
Confirm before troubleshooting
Check the printer’s connected status and the network name reported by your computer or phone. Guest networks may block local device discovery even if internet access works. If the router was replaced or its password changed, reconnect the printer to the new network.
After Wi-Fi is confirmed, add the printer in Windows or Mac settings or select it in a supported mobile app. If a computer still cannot find it, follow the discovery checklist rather than repeatedly reinstalling arbitrary drivers.
